Description

Classic Italian Meatball Subs made with juicy beef and Italian sausage meatballs, simmered in marinara and topped with melted mozzarella in toasted hoagie rolls.

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb ground beef (85% lean)

½ lb ground Italian sausage

½ cup breadcrumbs

1 egg

2 tbsp milk

1 tsp salt

½ tsp black pepper

1 tsp garlic powder

1 cup marinara sauce

4 Italian hoagie rolls

1 cup shredded mozzarella or provolone

2 tbsp butter (for toasting)

Fresh basil or parsley for garnish

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

2. Combine beef, sausage, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

3. Shape into 1½-inch meatballs and bake for 20 minutes.

4. Simmer meatballs in marinara for 10 minutes.

5. Toast hoagie rolls with butter until golden.

6. Assemble subs: place meatballs, spoon sauce, top with cheese.

7. Broil 2–3 minutes until cheese melts and bubbles.

8. Garnish with basil or parsley and serve hot.

Notes

Use a mix of beef and pork for rich flavor. Toasting rolls helps prevent sogginess. You can freeze extra meatballs up to 3 months.
