This overnight breakfast casserole with bread is a hearty, make-ahead breakfast bake loaded with sausage, eggs, and cheese — simple, comforting, and perfect for holidays.
Ingredients
8 large eggs
2 cups milk
1 cup half-and-half
6 slices day-old bread, cubed
1 lb breakfast sausage
1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper
¼ tsp garlic powder
½ small onion, diced
2 tbsp butter, melted
2 tbsp chopped parsley
Instructions
1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. Cook sausage and drain grease.
3. Layer bread, sausage, and half the cheese.
4. Whisk eggs, milk, and seasonings.
5. Pour evenly over the casserole.
6. Top with remaining cheese and butter.
7. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
8. Bake uncovered at 350°F for 45 minutes.
9. Cool, garnish, and serve warm.
Notes
Use thick, stale bread for best texture.
Refrigerate up to 24 hours before baking.
Freeze baked portions up to 2 months.
