Description

Handheld Italian appetizers combining cherry tomatoes, mozzarella balls, and basil with balsamic glaze. Perfect for summer gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

24 cherry tomatoes
24 mozzarella bocconcini
12 fresh basil leaves
6 tbsp balsamic glaze
24 wooden skewers

Instructions

Wash cherry tomatoes and pat dry
Rinse mozzarella under cold water to remove brine
Pat mozzarella balls gently with paper towels
Slip basil leaves onto skewer tips for quick assembly
Alternate tomatoes and cheeses on skewers
Space components for even balance
Place 3-4 skewers on serving board per guest
Prepare glaze in small bowl for easy drizzling
Drizzle 1/2 tbsp glaze per skewer
Start from top to coat each component fully
Finish with torn basil leaves on plating
Chill revealed skewers until serving time

Notes

Use whole water-packed mozzarella for structural integrity
Chill skewers for 15 minutes to enhance flavor contrast
Balance plating: 1 tomato:1 cheese:1 herb per slot
Apply glaze just before serving to prevent sogginess
Choose balsamic glaze with visible pulp for authentic texture
Bake tomatoes in oven at 400°F (200°C) for 5 minutes to enhance sweetness (optional)
Replace mozzarella with vegan cheese for a dairy-free version
