Ingredients
2 cans (21 oz each) cherry pie filling
1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
Spread both cans of cherry pie filling evenly across the bottom of the baking dish.
Evenly sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix over the cherry layer.
Slice the cold butter into thin pats and arrange them closely to cover the top of the cake mix entirely.
Bake for 45 minutes until the fruit is bubbling at the edges and the top is golden-brown.
Remove from oven and allow to cool for at least 15 minutes to let the filling thicken before serving.
Notes
Cover the entire surface with butter slices to avoid dry spots in the cake mix. Check the middle of the cake before removing from the oven to ensure all dry mix has hydrated with the fruit juices. Place a rimmed baking sheet on the bottom rack to catch any juices that might bubble over.
