Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour (240g), gluten-free option available
1 1/2 cups sugar (300g), brown or raw sugar acceptable
4 large eggs, room temperature
1 cup butter (227g), softened and unsalted
1 cup cream (240ml), full-fat
6 oz gold drip (edible luster dust or liquid gold)
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
4 oz cream cheese (113g), softened
4 cups powdered sugar (480g)
1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round pans with 1-inch sides
Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl
In a stand mixer, beat eggs and butter until light and fluffy
Gradually add flour mixture to egg-butter blend, alternating with cream
Pour batter equally into prepared pans. Bake 18-22 minutes until golden
Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar
Add vanilla extract to buttercream
Place first layer on serving plate. Spread 1/3 cup frosting
Repeat with remaining layers
Transfer gold drip to squeeze bottle. Drizzle around cake evenly
Notes
Use room-temperature ingredients for smooth emulsification
Gold drip applies best with a squeeze bottle
For gluten-free version: substitute cake flour with gluten-free blend
Sugar type can be swapped (-1/2 tsp baking powder if using brown sugar)
