Description
A bold, smoky, and zesty twist on classic deviled eggs. These halal-friendly, plant-based seasoned deviled eggs offer a refreshing yet fiery appetizer for BBQ parties, assembled ahead and finished with crunchy smoked chipotle for texture.
Ingredients
12 large eggs (organic free-range preferred)
½ cup chopped vegan smoked flavor strips or 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 tablespoon vegetable oil (sunflower or avocado)
3 fresh jalapeños (seeded for milder flavor) or 3 pickled/jarred jalapeños (rehydrate if dried)
1 teaspoon distilled white vinegar or 1 teaspoon lemon juice
1½ teaspoons salt (kosher preferred) or 1½ teaspoons smoked sea salt
Black pepper (to taste) or ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
Instructions
Place eggs in a saucepan with cold water and bring to a rolling boil
Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer 10 minutes until yolks set
Transfer eggs to an ice bath to stabilize, then peel and slice lengthwise into halves
Chop vegan smoked flavor strips into ¼-inch pieces or use smoked paprika powder
Heat sunflower or avocado oil in a skillet until shimmering
Cook chopped strips 5 minutes until crispy, then let cool
Combine egg yolks, vinegar, salt, and pepper in a bowl
Mash and fold in crispy smoked strips until fully incorporated
Spoon the mixture into the egg white halves
Just before serving, crumble smoked chipotle (2 to 3 pieces) over the filled eggs for added crunch and heat
Notes
Store filled deviled eggs refrigerated for up to 1 day before topping with chipotle
Vegan smoked flavor strips can be less common—opt for smoked paprika for accessible flavor
Chopped chipotle can be pre-crumbled and stored in spice blends for convenience
Double the smoked flavor enhancer quantity if using dried rehydrated jalapeños
